  • What Music Nerds Talk About Over Drinks, or, The 49 Year Old Beatles Argument

After a few industry-themed posts, I thought I'd do one for myself and my Move Some Air (MVA) friend and our dinner conversation.

With all the constant reminders lately of how great the Beatles were, from The Grammys to SNL, to any time music is on a broadcast network, and with the near constant trotting out of Sir Paul for any music occasion that needs to feel the gravitas of legend, I feel the need to come out and reignite the argument (from 1965, this is a VERY current post), and stay that I'm a Stones guy.  I hear the Beatles, I understand the Beatles, but I FEEL the Stones.

Usually music nerd cocktails end up like the list scene from High Fidelity , and ours are no different.  My main argument (of which I'm always sorely in the the vast minority) usually argue that songs that reference the Stones are better than songs that mention the Beatles.  Since, for better or worse, we all know "Move Like Jagger" by heart at this point, these are tracks that were all important to me in my formative years and may have slipped through the cracks of time.

Feel free to share some of yours in the comments, in the meantime, here they are:

    "Slow Turning" - John Hiatt

    "Summer" - Buffalo Tom

"What Girls Want" - Material Issue

"Behind The Wall Of Sleep" - The Smithereens

And probably the best and most important of them all..the I walked down the aisle to as played by a string trio..

    "Thirteen" - Big Star
